WORK SMARTER NOT HARDER!

Can I eat carbs after 6pm?  Should I do cardio before breakfast?  Should I train 6 x per week?  Do I need to join a gym?

These are all examples of questions we get asked during our consultation, want to know the answers? The answer to all is “IT DEPENDS” Annoying, sorry! It depends on YOUR lifestyle. Fitforit we want to make the journey towards your health and fitness goals as simple and easy as possible. I always say to my clients we want to make “minimum change for maximum impact”.

We want to make the smallest changes we can that will still give you results. Then when you feel ready, or if you plateau we can simply make a few small changes, add in some new good habits, and continue getting results. By making regular smaller changes it means you are more likely to succeed in making them routine, and by succeeding and feeling good about making those changes your confidence in the process and yourself will grow. How many times have you tried to make radical changes to your lifestyle only to fall off the wagon weeks, days (or even hours!) after starting? Then you feel crap about yourself, then potentially fall into the ‘oh fu*k it’ trap and order a pizza! Yup, we have all been there.

Everybody is different. We consider your lifestyle. We are not going to suggest the same changes to diet and exercise to a working mum of 3 kids to a single female who works from home. So, let’s look at the questions posed at the beginning;

Can I eat carbs after 6pm? Of course you can! Your carbohydrate intake should reflect the amount of activity you do. Yes, there can be optimum times to eat carbohydrates but if you are more likely to stick to your healthy lifestyle plan by having a pasta dish with your family at night and reducing your carb intake during the day then eat the pasta!

Should I do cardio before breakfast? Exercising early is a great way to ensure you get it done for the day and something I would encourage all my clients to try. However, not if you work shifts or find it so damned miserable to get up in the mornings that you hate doing it (then eventually won’t do it) then don’t bother, just got to fit it in another time.

Should I train 6 times per week? Only if you already train regularly and are in tune with your body enough to know when not to exhaust it. But honestly, there is no need. Keeping ACTIVE 6 times per week is more important. We would never advise beginners to go from 0-6 times training per week. Let’s build in the HABIT of exercise first and take it from there. Got to work smarter, not harder!

Do I need to join a gym? Not if you can’t afford it or hate it. We will find a way to programme exercise into your life out with the gym. Lots of our clients just don’t like the classic gym environment. No worries! Go to classes, go dancing, go running, get to our Fitforit Bootcamp (great intro….. see our bootcamp HERE, 1 week free trial).

Our main goal is to get you the results you want, but in a way that feels good and means long term lifestyle changes. By layering up smaller habits weekly, you will feel more confident you can succeed long term. It also gives you time to start reflecting on how exercise and nutrition changes are affecting your life aside from weight loss. Sleeping better, feeling happier, motivated, less bloated, more in control of what they eat, ENJOYING exercise, and less aches and pains are all common changes to experience.

These should be more important than fat loss! Fat loss will happen when you continue to make positive changes to your lifestyle. Yes, it does take it a bit of effort and we don’t want to make it out to be all plain sailing but we do promise to try and make it a SIMPLE as possible.
